Surf Boats

Surf boats also have a proud and important history at Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club. Over the years, our crews have achieved significant success, won numerous titles and representing the Club with distinction.

Our Whangamatā boat is a reminder of that history and the generations of athletes who have contributed to the Club through surf boat racing. Surf boats bring together fitness, technical skill, teamwork, communication, resilience and the ability to make decisions in challenging conditions — all qualities that are valuable both on the competition course and on the beach.

We want to continue that legacy by supporting the next generation of surf boat crews and ensuring that this important part of our Club’s history remains a living part of our future.

What it takes

Eligibility

  • Be a qualified and refreshed lifeguard
  • Hold a current financial membership of Whangamata SLSC
  • Actively promote and support Whanga Week activities and the Annual Collection
  • Have paid all relevant fees
  • Attend regular training and work with the coach to set season goals and a plan to achieve them
