Head Coach – Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club (WSLSC) – full year role
Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club is seeking expressions of interest for a Head Coach for the 2026/2027 season.
The WSLSC has been reviewing how we support our juniors through to seniors, elite competitors, and future leaders within the club. As part of this long term vision, we’re hoping to move toward a 12 month employment model for the coaching role. The intent is to create greater continuity in athlete development, structured off season programming, and clearer progression pathways that align with both performance outcomes and culture.
This is a key leadership role overseeing a successful surf sports programme, working with athletes from Oceans through to Open and Masters, and supporting pathways to national and high-performance levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured coaching programmes across all athlete levels
- Prepare athletes for major events (Pool Rescue & Nationals)
- Support athlete development and high-performance pathways
- Contribute to a positive team culture and wider club capability
- Work with managers and committees on competition planning

About You:
- Surf Life Saving coaching experience (preferred)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Passion for athlete development and wellbeing
Employment Details:
Employment type (employee or contractor), remuneration, and hours will be agreed with the successful candidate. Any fixed-term agreement will comply with NZ employment law requirements.
